The 1940's-50s just seem to fit better than the 30s. All that aside, the way the DE story is told, & how well it's written, it's literally like a cinematic movie in a videogame.Ģ is so much fun though, even the story is fun! the time period is so much better imo because even though the DE was manual transmission, which from now on needs to be in every mafia game, period, those 1930's cars are shit tbh. The OG story was better because he was gangster & throughout the game the only thing that made him turn was the boss holding out on him. It's so cliché though, "I draw the line at heroin" Bro do you know many people he's killed throughout the game & that shit was too much for him lmao. I mean DE is cool & shit it's a more cinematic classic gangster style movie in a videogame. Gameplay- DE because it's gameplay is new compared to 2 Whereas in II, we became immersed in it since chapter 3. I felt like I couldn't really experience the world until free ride. However, the story and character relationships made up for that. It almost felt too linear at times in general. It was a little too much driving, and in some situations, not being able to change cars was annoying. I like the variety in missions through DE. I loved experiencing Vito's story, I felt more connection to him than Tommy. I felt more connected with the characters, but the ending, and everything post chapter 14 felt rushed. All these things kept me engaged for a long time, and the missions for me overall were more enjoyable. The immersion of diners, body shops, gun stores, buying a suit, etc. I played it for hours and hours on the PS3 and never really got tired of it, even after beating it on nearly every difficulty. The free roam and immersion in-between chapter missions during II was a lot of fun. Hopefully 4 combines the strenght of both :) The characters in Mafia 1/DE have more depth to them and feel less like clichés- Mafia 1/DE.Īll in all I'd say Mafia 1/DE wins in terms of story and characters and 2 for the gameplay and more interactivity in the world. TieĬharacters- I love Henry and the interactions between Vito and Joe, but apart from that most characters are assholes and/or annoying as well as stereotypes. Mafia 2įeel- I think both games have very strong atmosphere due to the era they're set in, aesthetics, music and world building. It is also a tad more interactive which adds immersion. I played through it at least 4 times simply because the shooting feels so satisfying. Gameplay: Mafia 2's gameplay is simpler per se, but imo it feels much slicker and more direct to control (On PC), which is why I prefer Mafia 2 here. Imo Mafia's plot and story is more rounded-out and focused, which is why I prefer it- Mafia 1/DE For more information, visit or follow Zynga on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or the Zynga blog.Story/plot- I think the story of Mafia 2 and its messages are too similar to Mafia (DE), has an abrupt ending, too many clichés and in general feels too rushed and disconnected.
